“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.”  John 14:1

Oh, precious truth!  Sweet words of comfort for one with a troubled, agitated heart!  What a shelter in the storms of life!  And when Jesus says it, we listen for we know it’s true and we can know it is a special promise from him to us.

This passage, as it has done  countless times, has once again given me comfort that all will be alright.  My friends can tell me it’ll be alright.  My president can tell me everything will be okay.  Even my wife can tell me not to worry.  But I’m afraid it doesn’t always work out.  But when God tells me . . . Wow, it will be alright!

” . . . believe in God, believe also in me.”  Believe, believe!  The Lord is talking about faith, trust, reliance.  Why are we so often troubled?  We aren’t believing.  We’re trusting in our own ability and wisdom and strength.  We take our eyes off of the Savior.  The antidote for trouble, anxiety, worry is faith, reliance . . . a leaning on Jesus.  God help us to trust him unreservedly and with joy!
